DON'T BE A PUBLIC SUCCESS, BUT A PRIVATE FAILURE

April 5, 2016

Too often I’ve found myself talking to people who secretly confessed that their lives are not all what they are portraying it to be. They’ve found themselves feeling pressured to give into the “Make Believe” pretentious life built on hype that we all see on TV and especially social media. For example, when we look at Facebook, everyone has on his or hers “Sunday’s Best” both in their personal and professional lives and yet nobody really knows whether or not it is THE TRUTH.

What is the real motivation behind craving to look like a success on the outside, but not on the inside? Is it all about trying to impress or prove to others just how “successful” we are? Or maybe, we do it to try to prove to ourselves by the show of external things that validates our worth. Many are working so hard to make themselves look great on the outside, but spend little time investing internally to be truly successful. What is the sense of having all the outward accolades, but can’t really look at or love the person in the mirror?

Well, I say…. IT’S TIME TO BE A SUCCESSFUL FOR REAL, BOTH PUBLICALLY & PRIVATELY!

Personally, I’ve decided not to create a public persona of success and have a mess of a private life. I have always purposefully and intentionally worked hard and still working diligently so that who you see me to BE is working for me both publically and behind the scenes. It is not about us trying to show outwardly that we got it all together. Privately, we all know if we are depressed all the time, don’t love ourselves, or whether or not our marriages are falling apart. We also know if we’re not speaking to our kids, or we don’t have friends or can’t get along with anyone, etc. These things are often kept hidden and pushed to the side.

I like what Dr. Stephen Covey said, ”put first things, first. And that the main thing is to keep the main thing, the main thing.”  To me, this means it’s very important to invest in yourself first by becoming strong in your identity in who God created you to be. Then invest in our relationships with your spouse, children, family, and friends. In addition, it’s important to take care of our body, get strong in our faith, and discover our purpose, so that we can live it boldly and out loud all while making a living to live the life we want and deserve.

HERE ARE 3 PRINCIPLES THAT I BELIEVE ARE IMPORTANT TO BECOMING A PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SUCCESS:

1. BE HONEST WITH YOURSELF AND ACCEPT WHERE YOU ARE RIGHT NOW. It’s ok…it’s only temporary.

2. PURPOSE TO RUN YOUR LIFE ON ALL CYLINDERS. Refuse to give into the pressure to pump up one area of your life and downplay the other. In other words, put as much energy into your private life as you do in your public life so that people are meeting the REAL YOU the first time.

3. REMEMBER, WE ARE ALL A WORK IN PROGRESS.  So, don’t be afraid to own who you are at all times, but know that it doesn’t matter what you look like on the outside, if on the inside you don’t exist.

You can create a YUMMY LIFE that shows up everywhere you are and that displays your TRUTH and your REALITY of real success both inside and out!

Is this what you want? I do.
