A POWER ATTITUDE. What do I mean by a Power Attitude? This is the attitude of empowering yourself to believe the truth about who you really are and what you can really do. But for most of us, there seems to be this invisible force that captures our minds and causes us to live in a box, instead of living outside the box and out loud! You see, I know that what we believe about ourselves will always outweigh what someone else thinks or believes about us. Why? Because as a man or woman believes in his or her's heart, so are they. Whatever you believe in your “own” heart, it becomes your personal truth and your reality. And when it is your reality, it becomes that thing that either powers you forward or backwards in your life. So what is this invisible force that I’m talking about that holds you back from being everything that were meant to be? IT IS SELF-LIMITING BELIEFS!
Self-Limiting Beliefs are those beliefs that are so deeply rooted in your psyche that stifles your ability to reach your fullest potential in who you can become or what you can do. Perhaps they were beliefs that started in your childhood or maybe it was later on in your life from a particular event that happened to you or from something that someone said to you. Nevertheless, they have become a part of your belief system, which is now a huge roadblock for you achieving your personal best.
Self-Limiting Beliefs causes you to believe that where you are, is as far as you can go. They can hinder your motivation to go after what you want because it paralyzes your efforts to even try.
Self-Limiting Beliefs creates self-doubt and anxiety by embracing the “What If” mindset which formulates a conscious or unconscious negative conversation that goes something like this….“what if” I do this and I fail. Well, let’s turn that around and say what if you try that and you succeed!
Self-Limiting Beliefs keeps you on a constant roller coaster of “defeatism”. The beliefs becomes your “new normal” which will always result in defeat in whatever you do.
So how do you “Develop a Power Attitude” and overcome Self-Limiting Beliefs?
Attitude comes from a shift in your mindset! I love how one person describes it as… ‘A mental habit that filters how you perceive the world around you and also the actions and behaviors you take in response.’
A Power Attitude requires 3 steps:
1. CHANGE HOW YOU THINK - this is two fold. First you have to change how you think about you. You must know who you are and whose you are. You are wonderful and fearfully made by God to do great things on the planet. But it is up to you to embrace the limitless opportunities that await you. This is the exciting part of your journey! Secondly, whatever your situation is or whatever you circumstance looks like, it is up to you to choose how you will view what you are experiencing. It’s also important to know that what is happening right now will not last forever.
Choosing to lean into your “right now reality” is about asking yourself what are the lessons for you to learn and how you can grow from this will position you in a place of power in your attitude. It allows your current experience to serve you and your purpose in a greater way.
2. CHANGE WHAT YOU THINK ON – I love what The Message Bible that states Philippians 4:8 from with us what to think on. It reads “you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse.”
If the self-limiting beliefs are forcing you to think on the negative, you have to remind yourself of all the good that has taken place in your life. Don’t allow your mind to continually feed on what didn’t happen, but instead on what has happened and on what can or will happen next. This will surely position you to adopt a Power Attitude by being reminded of your blessings and accomplishments!
3. CHANGE WHAT YOU DO – You must take action to overcome Self-Limiting Beliefs. In other words, you have to tell a NEW STORY about yourself because the one that you have no longer serves you. It no longer propels you to the next level in your life! So the next time a self-limiting belief rises up to stop you in your tracks from pursuing your greatness, stop and write down what the self-limiting belief is. Your “Breakthrough Action” is to write the opposite of that belief. For example, if you are in debt and your self-limiting belief is “I will always be in debt” then your belief now becomes “I am in the process of getting out debt and living a debt free life”. It is important to make this declaration everyday by saying them out loud because faith comes by hearing what you are declaring. Then take another step towards decreasing your debt by creating a budget, set up an appointment with a financial planner, read a book, or go to a seminar, etc.

Whatever they are do these 3 three steps for at least 21 days, you will surely blast away self-limiting beliefs and develop a strong POWER ATTITUDE!
